We Have Sinned

By David J. Stewart

Judges 10:10, “And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.”

The phrase “WE HAVE SINNED” appears 23 times in the Old Testament. The mature Christian doesn't point fingers saying, “he has sinned” and “she has sinned”; but rather, humbly says “we have sinned.”

Isaiah 6:5, “Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”

Isaiah cried out to God, admitting that he was a sinner in the midst of a sinful people, the Jews. Assyria laid siege against the northern kingdom of Israel and took them into captivity in 722 BC. The Jews were carried away into captivity to Assyria.

Let me ask you my friend, do you have a meek and humble attitude of WE HAVE SINNED? Or do you criticize others for being more sinful than you think you are. May I remind you that James 2:9-10 says, “But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” It is a sin to be a respecter of persons, esteeming one man as a bigger sinner than another. The proper attitude is that even the best Christian amongst us is still a horrible sinner in GOD'S EYES.

I love king David in the Bible. When he sinned he was always quick to admit that he was wrong when confronted about it. Although David was in denial for several months after committing adultery with Bathsheba and killing her husband to hide an unintended pregnancy, David immediately repented when confronted by Nathan the prophet.

When David sinned by numbering the people, his heart immediately was convicted for his sinful pride...

2nd Samuel 24:10, “And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.”

No wonder David was called a man after God's own heart. Albeit, I believe the main reason why David was called a man after God's own heart was because David was also a man after God's own thoughts. David loved the Bible. Psalms 119:47, “And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.” David only had the writings of Moses. We have the entire Bible, yet shockingly, only 46% of Americans read the Bible once or twice a year at most. Tragically, according to THE GOOD NEWS magazine (July-August 2012, by Scott Ashley, page 26), only 46% of Americans read their Bible once or twice a year. As Matthew 7:20 tells us, “By their fruits you will know them.”

No wonder the sin of homosexuality is quickly being accepted by America culture. God will NEVER accept the sins of homosexuality, abortion, drunkenness, feminism, immodest dress, nudity, cursing in the Lord's name and a host of other sins that Americans shamefully indulge in these days. We are taught to have the MIND OF JESUS CHRIST (Philippians 2:5). We obtain the mind of Christ by obeying the Lord's command to SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES!

Although we can only judge people based upon what we see (that is, their works), we must never despise a fallen brother or sister who has gone into sin. Except it be for God's grace, we would do the same. It is by God's mercy and grace that helps us depart from temptation that enables us to live according to God's will. If we sin, we have no one to blame except ourselves. But if we live righteously, we've got no one to credit except the blessed Holy Spirit of God Who indwells us as believers (Romans 8:9). Amen!

WE HAVE SINNED. Don't point fingers at others who sin, because we are all horrible sinners. We have all disobeyed God in one way or another, even the best Christians.

You hypocrites who say you'd never pray for him are not right with God (or need to get saved as well). The Bible says a just man falleth seven times. That means YOU if you are saved. If it's not you, then you're hellbound in your sins without Christ. The Bible says in 1st John 1:8-10 that if we deny our wickedness it's because we are not saved.

There's only two types of people in this world: 1) Christians who are trying to live right and stumbling continually, and 2) Unsaved people who don't even try to live right. That's it! If you say otherwise, then you are calling God a liar Who said a just man FALLETH SEVEN TIMES, YET RISETH UP AGAIN. Proverbs 24:16, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” Wicked people who don't even try to live right attack Christians who drop one sandwich on the floor.

WE HAVE SINNED. Don't point fingers at others who sin, because we are all horrible sinners. We have all disobeyed God in one way or another, even the best Christians.
