The Thoughts Of His Heart
By David J. Stewart
Psalms 33:11, “The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.”
What a precious statement! The Bible is God's thoughts to every generation. Notice the personalization... “to every generation.” God authored the Bible for today's generation as much as any other generation throughout history. What a wonderful truth that the Bible is not merely a religious book, or a History book; but rather, “THE THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART.”
What a humbling thought... God wanted to share the thoughts of His heart with each generation. Oh how foolish and sinful are those who disregard the Bible, neglecting and refusing God's thoughts.
Sadly, most people couldn't care less what God thinks. Romans 1:28 says that wicked men choose not to retain God in their mind. John 3:20 says that people who love evil won't come to Jesus lest their sins be reproved. Either sin will keep you from the Bible, or the Bible will keep you from sin. The wicked don't care about God's thoughts because they know they are living in rebellion against God. Those who live upright love God's thoughts, but those who live in sin hate the Words of God.
God is brutally honest in the Bible. I love that. But this wicked generation is trying to redefine God to be a homosexual. This evil generation is trying to redefine God to approve of abortion, gambling and drunkenness. Instead of accepting the truth that we were created in the image of a holy God, men choose rather to redefine God in man's image to conform to sin. God is still a holy God and hates sin. Psalms 97:10 commands for all believers who LOVE THE LORD TO HATE EVIL. Do you love the Lord? Do you hate evil? Most professed Christians don't hate evil enough to take a stand against it. They don't love the Lord like they should.
To the same degree that America embraces sin, to that same degree a totalitarian Police State is rising up around us.
The traditional family is virtually gone. Family values are now a thing of the past. America's Supreme Court has declared war on God, having successfully eradicated God from every bastion of children's lives in our nation. If Satan can't murder children bodily through the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion; then he'll murder children spiritually by robbing them of faith in God, through their 1963 ruling to ban the Bible and prayer from classrooms. There is to be separation of Church and State, not separation of God and State. God is not sharing power with the State, God is to be over the State. Woe unto any nation that forgets the Lord (Psalms 9:17).
From Genesis to Revelation the Bible gives us the thoughts of God's heart. The Bible does not contain the Word of God; but rather, the Bible is the Word of God. Every word in the Bible was given by God for a purpose. God has shared the thoughts of His heart unto every generation. Notice the personal appeal... to EVERY generation. Amos 3:3 says two must AGREE or else they cannot walk together. If you want to walk with God, then saturate yourself in the Scriptures; but most of all, PREPARE YOUR HEART TO SEEK THE LORD...
2nd Chronicles 12:13-14, “So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.”
Walking with God is no accident; but rather, on purpose! Of course, you have to be saved by faith alone in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mark 1:15 says to repent and believe the Gospel. The object of repentance is to believe the Gospel. Some heretics falsely separate repentance and make it a separate step to salvation. That's a false understanding of repentance. Biblical repentance is a change of mind that compels you to believe the Gospel. Repentance is NOT a change of life. A changed life is the result (FRUIT) of being saved, and not a part of the ROOT of saving faith.
Life is short friend. Hell is real and forever. All Christ-rejecters will spend eternity in Hell. Do you care about God's thoughts? Do you appreciate what God wants to tell us from His heart? God tells us that His Words shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35). 1st John 2:15-17 warns that this world will pass away. God's Words will NOT pass away!
The Bible tells us the thoughts of God's heart. It doesn't matter what you think. It doesn't matter what I think. My preaching is none of my business. I preach what God's Holy Spirit tells me to preach. I preach the Words of God. This wicked generation thinks they know more about life than God. Youth are arrogant, sinfully proud and rebellious.
Who are you going to follow then... the world or God's Words? I choose to follow the Bible! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD (Joshua 24:15)...
I am awestricken by what the Bible says...
Psalms 33:11, “The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.”
What a precious thought to view the Bible as the thoughts of God's heart. This Bible verse speaks volumes concerning God's holiness, sincerity, purity and genuine concern. I hear some men call the Bible a Jewish history book. I hear others diminish the Bible as a book of fables and fairytales. I hear men saying that men wrote the Bible. I hear people attacking and diminishing the Bible. My friend, you just read for yourself that the Bible is the thoughts of God's heart.
The Bible is truth (John 17:17). The Bible's words are the inspired Words of God (2nd Timothy 3:16). And the Bible's words are the thoughts of God's heart to each generation. Isn't that beautiful? Oh how wicked is this generation to shirk off the importance of abiding in the Scriptures. 1st Peter 1:23 declares that the believer is born-again by the seed of God's Word. We are born-again by the Word of God. Amen! The Bible is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes on the Gospel (Romans 1:16). 1st Corinthians 15:1-4 defines the Gospel as the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Calvary covers it all!
The Bible means everything to the genuine believer on Christ. You show me a person who despises the Bible and I know they are unsaved. No man can hate the Bible and be saved, for the Word of God is the very seed by which men are born again.1st Peter 1:23, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
Everyone has individual soul liberty. That is, God never forces anybody to be saved. The choice is yours alone to make. Jesus is the living Word (John 1:1-3,14; Revelation 19:13). The Bible is the written Word of God. The thoughts of God's heart teach us that salvation is by grace through faith plus nothing. Jesus paid for our sins! Salvation is God's gift. Eternal life is a gift (Romans 6:23) based upon the love (John 3:16) and promise of God (Titus 1:2).
There are only two religions: DO and DONE! You either believe that you must DO something to get into Heaven; or else you believe that it is DONE in Christ Jesus, paid for completely by His shed blood.
The world constantly seeks to make us feel discontented. All advertising, whether on TV, billboards, or in catalogs, is designed to make you think, “I need this product to be happy!” A PBS television program stated that the average American sees over a million commercials by age 20 (Randy Alcorn, The Treasure Principle [Multnomah Publishers], p. 50). I don’t know how they came up with that number, but it averages out to 137 per day, if you start at birth! Even a fraction of that many commercials has got to affect us! So we have to fight the influence of the world, or its swift current will sweep us downstream. Those are the thoughts of the sinful world. Greedy corporations and television executives are extremely immoral and will stoop low to the level of street criminals to take your money.
It's a sad fact that sex sells. Evil people will do anything to make money. I heard the editor of “Sports Illustrated” magazine say that many Christians told her she was going to Hell for putting naked women in the magazine. Can you blame people for saying that when you destroy lives and families to make a buck? The magazine took off overnight and made the company filthy rich by including soft pornography into Sports Illustrated.
People who make money from promoting indecency, immodesty and sexual lewdness will be sorry on judgment day, and most of them will wish they'd never been born. No man is right with God who looks at Sports Illustrated. It ought to be called “Whores Illustrated.” God's thoughts are against sin. God's thoughts are expressed in the Bible. The Bible teaches modesty (1st Timothy 2:9) and that lust is a sin (Matthew 5:28), which immodesty causes!!!
Hollywood has done more to corrupt and destroy the morals of Americans than any other demonic influence. God's judgment is long overdue in America. God has been so patient and loving. Each generation has no excuse to blame the previous generation. No one has a right to blame Adam and Eve. No one can say, it's not my fault. You have no one to blame but yourself for YOUR OWN SINS! Thankfully, Jesus is the way out! Jesus is the way out alcoholic! Jesus is the way out homosexual! Jesus is the way out abortionist! Jesus it he way out for me, and Jesus is the way out for you! We're all made out of the same dust of the earth. We're all sinners (Romans 3:23; James 2:10). If you have any genuine goodness, it's all Him my friend. It's because of Jesus that we can have eternal life and go to Heaven when we die. Amen!
I plead with you, whoever you may be, please let His thoughts be your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 teaches that God's thoughts are above and far beyond our thoughts; yet, we can obey the thoughts given to us by God in His Word. We have the Words of God. Philippians 2:5 says, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” If we are to have Christi's mind, then we must abide in Christ's Words. Jesus said His Words are truth (John 6:63). Praise God for His wondrous truths in the inspired Word of God. Thank God for the inspired King James Bible!
John 16:22, "And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you."
